@jasminetookes

More people are going back to basics in skincare, preferring natural and homemade remedies. Concerns about harsh chemicals, the environment, and costs are leading many to explore solutions in their kitchen cabinets. DIY face masks and scrubs offer simple, natural ways to care for your skin, without spending a lot or sacrificing quality.

Why Homemade?

Homemade skincare is appealing because it's simple, transparent, and tailored to individual needs. Using natural ingredients creates products free from synthetic preservatives, helping you feel more connected to your body and practicing self-care.

Nourishing DIY Face Masks:

Hydrating Avocado Mask:
  • Ingredients: ½ ripe avocado, 1 tablespoon honey, 1 tablespoon plain yoghurt.

  • Instructions: Mash the avocado until smooth, then mix in honey and yoghurt until well combined. Apply to clean skin and leave on for 15-20 minutes before rinsing off with warm water. Avocado nourishes the skin with essential fatty acids, while honey and yoghurt provide moisture and gentle exfoliation.

Brightening Turmeric Mask:
  • Ingredients: 1 teaspoon turmeric powder, 1 tablespoon plain yogurt, 1 teaspoon honey.

  • Instructions: Mix all ingredients until smooth and apply to clean skin. Leave on for 10-15 minutes before rinsing off with lukewarm water. Turmeric is renowned for its anti-inflammatory and brightening properties, while yoghurt and honey soothe and hydrate the skin.

Purifying Clay Mask:
  • Ingredients: 1 tablespoon bentonite clay, 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar, 1 drop tea tree essential oil (optional).

  • Instructions: Mix clay and apple cider vinegar until smooth, then add tea tree oil if desired. Apply to clean skin and leave on for 10-15 minutes before rinsing off with warm water. Bentonite clay draws out impurities and excess oil, while apple cider vinegar balances the skin's pH.

Invigorating DIY Scrubs:

Exfoliation is key to maintaining smooth skin by sloughing away dead cells and influencing cell turnover. DIY scrubs offer a gentle yet effective way to achieve this.

Here are a couple of scrub recipes:

Sugar and Coconut Oil Scrub:
  • Ingredients: 1 tablespoon coconut oil, 2 tablespoons brown sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional).

  • Instructions: Mix all ingredients until well combined. Gently massage onto damp skin in circular motions, then rinse off with warm water. Sugar exfoliates while coconut oil moisturises, leaving skin silky smooth.

Coffee Grounds and Olive Oil Scrub:
  • Ingredients: 2 tablespoons coffee grounds (used or fresh), 1 tablespoon olive oil, 1 tablespoon honey (optional).

  • Instructions: Mix coffee grounds and olive oil until evenly distributed. Massage onto damp skin, focusing on areas prone to dryness or roughness. Rinse off with warm water. Coffee grounds provide gentle exfoliation and stimulate circulation, while olive oil hydrates and nourishes the skin.

In a world full of skincare products promising big results, homemade skincare stands out for being simple and effective. DIY face masks and scrubs, made from natural ingredients, are budget-friendly and eco-friendly too. Treat your skin right by making your own skincare treats at home – your skin will love you for it!
